LIBOR Donates $1,500 to Aid Flood Victims
August 10, 2004 - West Babylon, NY - On
August 10, 2004, the Long Island Board of Realtors®, Inc. presented
a check for $1,500 to the President of the Dominican Civic and Cultural
Committee of Long Island.
The Long Island Board of REALTORS®, Inc.
donated $1,500 to help the flood victims in the Dominican Republic
and Haiti. Since
November 2003, widespread flooding has inundated the region, as driving
rains overwhelmed river embankments, driving thousands of residents
from their homes. LIBOR President, Mel Farkas, who was joined by Nassau
Vice President Sheryl Kushnick and Suffolk Vice President, Gil Picard,
presented the check to Nancy Silverio, President of the Dominican Civic
and Cultural Committee of Long Island.
Astrid Fidelia, a REALTOR® with
Prudential, East Islip, who
serves on the management team for the Coalition for
Haitian Americans, was also on hand to accept LIBOR's donation,
together with the Coalition's President, Joe Paul.
To date, the Dominican Civic and Cultural Committee has raised
over $11,000 and plans to send representatives to the Caribbean over
the next few weeks. Once there, they will help oversee the distribution
of much needed supplies and materials. #
