FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Long Island Realtors® Aid Hurricane Katrina Victims

September 16, 2005 - West Babylon, NY - In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, Realtor® organizations across the country are rallying to provide relief to victims in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. The National Association of REALTORS (NAR) launched a nation wide fund-raising effort by donating 1.15 million dollars shortly after Hurricane Katrina swept through the U.S. Gulf Coast, wiping out cities and towns in the three states. The donation was earmarked as seed money to funds established by Realtor® associations in Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi.

Nationwide, the Realtor Relief Foundation has already collected nearly $3.2 million for relief efforts; NAR is absorbing all administrative costs to provide emergency relief for hurricane victims so all donations go directly to victims in the three states.

As it did after Sept, 11, 2001, to New York families and again recently to the Tsunami victims across the world, Long Island REALTORS® are asking “What can we do?” “Realtors® have always responded to adversity with compassion” said the Long Island Board of Realtors® (LIBOR) President Marian Fraker-Gutin. Further noting that, “The Realtors® Relief Foundation is providing emergency relief for the thousands of our fellow Americans that have suffered tremendous losses due to Hurricane Katrina. They need our help to rebuild their lives, so please give generously.” The Long Island Board has made an initial donation of $25,000 to the Realtor Relief Foundation on behalf of their 25,000 members.

If anyone wishes to make a donation to the REALTOR® Relief Foundation, make your check payable to the REALTOR Relief Foundation and mail it to: LIBOR, 300 Sunrise Highway, West Babylon, New York 11704. Checks will be collected by LIBOR and forwarded to NAR for disbursement as needed.
